Awkwafina | Born 1988

Nora Lum or professionally known as Awkwafina spent her formative years in Queens. Growing up, she was classically trained in playing the trumpet. By the time she was 16, she adopted the name Awkwafina, which she considers to be her alter ego to her passive and quiet personality. She graduated in 2011 from The State University of New York at Albany with a degree in Journalism and Women’s Studies. Before her rise to fame in show business, she worked as an intern in Gotham Gazette and Times Union. One of her initial claims to fame was the song My Vag, which became popular on YouTube.

Although the controversial topic of the song cost her her day job, she subsequently launched her hip-hop album, Yellow Ranger. Simultaneously, she appeared in the show Girl Code. Since then, she has appeared in several films and shows and even won a Golden Globe for her performance in 2019’s The Farewell. Recently, the 33-year-old has found success in voice acting and starred in the animation film Raya and the Last Dragon. She has also lent her voice in The Bad Guys and The Little Mermaid.
