Sophia Loren | Born 1934

Another staple of Hollywood icons is Sophia Loren. The American Film Institute credits her as the 21st greatest female star of Classic Hollywood Cinema. She is also the highest-ranked living person on the list. At the age of 86, Loren is now one of the last major surviving stars from the Golden Age of Hollywood cinema.

The Italian superstar has been in the entertainment business almost all her life. She started at the tender age of 16 in 1950, making her career now spanning more than seven decades. Thanks to her five-picture contract with Paramount back then, she now has an international career. Loren has no plans to retire from the business despite the advancing age and continuously graces our screens. In fact, she has last seen as a guest on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs in February 2021. She also appeared in the 2020s The Life Ahead, which was directed by her son Edoardo Ponti.
